Hooks Rally Late for Opening Day Win (April 23)
The Hooks edged out the River Dogs with an exciting 6th inning rally to win on Opening Day. The River Dogs built an early 4-1 lead with a big hit from Spencer Thompson despite strong pitching from Noah Seitz, Sam Christmas and William Lyon, who threw a combined 11 strikeouts.
River Dogs pitchers Ben Wright, Brady Cedrone and Beckett Lee were able to hold the the Hooks to only one run through 5 innings. The Hooks then rallied to load the bases in the top of the 6th. Sean Oâ€™Callaghan came through with a clutch single on a hard ground ball to second, driving in two runs. The Hooks tied the game with an RBI single by Lukas Pradel, followed by two more runs driven in by Christopher Sprague and William Lyon to take a two run lead into the bottom of the 6th.
The River Dogs would not go down without a fight, with a leadoff single by Brady Cedrone and eventually loading the bases. After a couple of strong defensive plays by Noah Seitz at first base, the Hooks turned to their closer, Christopher Sprague, who struck out the last batter to earn the save.
