Phillies hang on over Indians in nail-biter (May 9)

On a brisk overcast evening, the Fells True Value Hardware Phillies came out on top of the Theater Service Station Indians 12 to 11. Power hitting by the Phillies included: Quinn Johansen going three for three with a leadoff double, Henry McCurry slamming a three-run homer in the fourth, Will Gans slugging 3 for 3 with a hard-hit triple, Andrew Colli blasting a homerun to right. Jason Feng, Harry Lowenstein, Owen Rabinovich, Kellen Healey and Liam Strachan all got on base. Jackson Fefferman, Will Richardson and Owen Thomas all contributed to the Philly's winning effort.

The Phillies lead early and large, getting to 12 runs by the end of the fourth. However, the Indians battled back hard, capped by a five run fifth. Justin Girotti, Cole Cassidy, Thomas Seitz, and Andrew Buck all hit solidly to get on base. Grant Garrett, Griff Lynch and Tyler Johnson pounded doubles to contribute to the Indian's cause. Indian pitchers Eidan Toppa and Cole Cassidy kept the Phillies on their toes, shutting them out in the second and fifth innings.

Phillies starter James Wheaton pitched three impressive innings holding the Indians to only two runs. By the top of the sixth with the light fading, the Indians had surged back, bringing them to within one run - with only one out and two men on. Closer Will Gans came in and was able to get the final hitter to popup back to him, then throwing to third baseman Owen Rabinovich who doubled off his man, ending the game in dramatic fashion.
