Battle of the Hose: Red Sox defeat White Sox (May 29)
On Memorial Day, the Middlesex Surgical Associates Red Sox defeated the Green Light Biosciences White Sox 8-1. The conditions were wet and cold but the players' spirits were high. The Red Sox got on the scoreboard in the first inning off White Sox starter Beau Brissette on a Gannon Austin double that drove in Jack Siciliano (single) and Declan Mahoney (walk). Austin held the White Sox scoreless for the first two innings, striking out 6 and giving up a double to Easton Halsey and a single to Joey Testa. The Red Sox scoring five runs in the third on a leadoff triple by Ty Minton, a walk to Gavin Siciliano, singles by Jack Siciliano and Dario Volo, and a bases clearing double by Mahoney. The White Sox threatened in the bottom of the third with singles by Joe McCabe and Paul Karle and had the bases loaded before Red Sox pitcher Jack Siciliano induced two ground balls to end the threat. The Red Sox picked up another run in the fourth on singles by Danny Collins and Kumar Muniappan and a double by David Strong but the White Sox held firm on the pitching of Halsey and the catching of Alex Zarur, who prevented several potential passed balls. The hit of the game came in the bottom of the fourth when Tyler Beliveau launched a monster home run to put the White Sox on the board. Collins pitched the fifth inning and the White Sox came back strong on a single by Testa and a walk by Zarur but Collins got a strikeout and Mahoney threw to Volo twice to get runners trying to steal third base for the last two outs of the game.
