A's Hold Off O's 6-3, on Big Fourth Inning (May 24)
The Orioles took the a 1-0 lead in the first, on a solid single by Anthony Galvagna, and an RBI hit by Eric Chen. Their lead stood through three innings, as O's ace Gus Sendlenski shut down the A's bats, surrendering only two hits - singles by Antonio Zermani and Josh Lacey - and striking out six.
A's starter Lacey held the O's to their lone run in the first, holding them to five hits over three innings - two by Galvagna, and one each by Chen, Sendlenski and rookie Andrew Lyon.
In their half of the fourth, the A's exploded for six runs. AJ Muse led off with a triple to right center, followed by consecutive singles by Dante Zermani, Antonio Zermani and Will Fuller. Then, with one out, the A's got hits from Sam Kritzman, Luke Travaglini, and Tedy Cutting, as well as a key walk by Connor Pandolph to close out the scoring.
A's reliever Austin Curtis shut down the O's in the fourth and fifth. But the Birds staged a furious rally in the sixth. Sam McDonald led off with a walk, and after consecutive singles by Danny Markham and Chen, the O's had two runs in and were threatening. With the bases loaded - on walks to Quinny Crowe and Will Fortier - and two outs - A's closer Sam Kritzman struck out the final batter to preserve the hard-fought victory for the A's.
