Marlins defeat Diamondbacks (May 24)
The Main Street Citgo Marlins defeated the J. Donlon Construction Diamondbacks in a close game Friday night. With the Marlins now at bat and facing the Diamondbacks pitcher Calvin Pagan, Power got things going with a single up the middle. Badger was able to advance to third on a sacrifice fly by Schut. Badger then stole home, giving the Marlins a 2-0 lead to start the second inning.
Pat Obrien and Jeffrey Manuel each reached base safely with a single and a double. Obrien was able to score on a fielding error and the Diamondbacks were threatening to score more had it not been for a superb play by centerfielder Mark Kuchma! He caught a fly ball and quickly doubled up the runner at second by firing the ball to shortstop Charlie Badger to end the inning. In the bottom of the third Thomas Andrews and Mark Price both reached base on walks and Andrews was driven home on a double hit to deep center by Power. The inning ended with Price being tagged out at the plate on a close play. Price threw a scoreless fourth inning with one strikeout facing just four batters. Reagan Huber got things going to start the bottom of the fourth inning with a single followed by Kuchma who hit a hard grounder to shortstop, but quick work by the Diamondbacks P. Obrien, Logan Li, and Will Gindel helped turn a double play and keep the Marlins from threatening. Badger, along with great fielding from Max Lowenberg, Matthew Hu, Leo Arone and Thomas Sheehan behind him, was able to keep the Diamondbacks from scoring, giving the Marlins a 3-1 win!
