Marlins swim away with a close win (May 10)
The Main Street Citgo Marlins squeaked out a close win over the GreenLight Biosciences White Sox on a chilly Tuesday evening at Nutile C! The White Sox capitalized on a couple of Marlin fielding errors to score 1 run in the bottom of the first inning. The White Sox added another run in the bottom of the second inning when Thomas Mahoney was driven home by Tyler Beliveau to make the score 2-0. Meanwhile the White Sox pitching combo of Ted Boksanski and Beau Brissette had kept the Marlins bats quiet until the fourth inning when Badger and Michael Nigro worked the count for a pair of walks. That brought Schut to the plate, who delivered with a double to deep center field scoring two runs. Then Schut was able to score on a hard hit ball by Hu that resulted in a White Sox error. With the Marlins now up by a run they hunkered down on defense with solid all around fielding and dominate pitching by Schut. The fifth inning ended on a superb double play when Badger made a leaping catch on a hard line drive to shortstop and heads up throw to first baseman Chris Power to double up the runner! The White Sox pitcher, Thomas Mahoney was able to keep the Marlin’s from scoring in the final two innings giving his team a chance to come back in the bottom of the sixth. With Schut still on the mound the first two batters he faced went down by way of the K. The game ended with the last White Sox batter hitting a slow grounder to Power at first base who stepped on the bag for the final out. Final score Marlins 3 and the White Sox 2!
