Comeback Cards Win the Battle of the Birds (May 10)
Comeback Cards Win the Battle of the Birds Feathers flew on a chilly May evening at Nutile Field as the www.clearsurance.com Orioles hosted the Tri State Fire Protection Cardinals. In the first inning, the Orioles welcomed their fellow flyers with a four-run feast on hits by Danny Markham, Anthony Galvagna, Eric Chen, and Will Fortier. Sam McDonald and James Lyon also worked full count walks to add to the damage.
The Cardinals knew it was still early in the game and pecked away at the lead. In the second inning, the Cardinals scored twice as a Tobei Nakajima double and Paddy Galvin walk were followed up by a 2-RBI Jack Duncan hit. In the third, Jack Baker got the Cardinals started with a single followed by Ryan Harding, Quinn Falvey, and Anton Crawford all reaching base. With the game now 4-4, Nick Hart-Nibbrig hit a 2-RBI single to give the Red Birds the lead. The Cardinals really took off in the fourth inning with Ellix Sandhu getting it started with a single to left. Tyler Ulwick, William Schlesinger, Baker, Harding, and Q. Falvey all reached base and Crawford hit a 3-run double to clean up the bases. The Cardinals held on to this lead for an 11-4 victory.
Baker, Aidan Falvey, and Sandhu combined for the Cardinals to shut down the Orioles after their big first inning. Gus Sendlenski, Markham, and Alex Casey pitched for the Orioles. The Cardinals will host one more Battle of the Birds next week.
