Red Sox Prevail in Pitchers Duel (May 11)
Declan Mahoney, Jack Siciliano and Gannon Austin combined for 14 strikeouts while yielding only 1 hit for the Middlesex Surgical Associates Red Sox in a 3-0 shutout over the Main Street Citgo Marlins. Mahoney struck out 6 in two innings to start the game while Siciliano and Austin Kd 4 each in their two innings of work. The Red Sox got all of their runs in the first inning. Jack Siciliano and Thomas Mackey each had a single and a run scored. Gannon Austin also singled and drove in 2 runs. Rounding out the Red Sox hit parade were Ryan Azzaria with a single and David Strong who narrowly missed a home run with a long double to left field.
After the first inning, the Marlin pitchers shut down the Red Sox bats. Chris Power struck out 6 in three innings of work and Charlie Badger went the last three innings fanning 7. Max Lowenbergs single in the 6th was the only hit for the Marlins. The Marlins threatened in the 4th inning. With Mark Price on base, Charlie Badger drove a long fly to the deepest part of the field. Fortunately for the Sox, glove man Gavin Siciliano tracked the ball down just in front of the center field fence. Thomas Mackey and Akira Shimeda-Cirnigliaro combined for two defensive gems in the 6th to hold on for the win. The pitchers for both squads were outstanding. They all worked efficiently with high strike out numbers. Most impressive is that each team allowed only 1 walk for the game.
